Role Summary

The Director of Data Engineering is a key member of our Technical Delivery team, collaborating with clients and internal stakeholders to design and implement innovative data solutions. This role requires a subject matter expert in data engineering, providing technical guidance and leadership to team members. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage a team while remaining hands-on, reporting directly to the Vice President, Delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Establish and maintain expertise in data engineering, serving as a trusted advisor for all data-related needs at Project X.
  2. Work closely with team members to define project scope, requirements, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
  3. Lead a team of data engineers, focusing on talent development, mentoring, and retention, while driving project success and delivery.
  4. Design and implement data ingestion and transformation pipelines, leveraging classic and modern tools, and promoting best practices.
  5. Develop and maintain standard design patterns and data flow documents for enterprise data warehousing solutions.
  6. Effectively communicate with stakeholders, including senior management, to provide project updates and ensure goal achievement.
  7. Collaborate with data science and analytics teams to understand data needs and develop systems to support their work.
  8. Manage project timelines, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results, including code reviews.
  9. Contribute to R&D initiatives, exploring new approaches to improve work efficiency.
  10. Partner with Talent Acquisition teams to identify and select new staff based on competencies and cultural fit.
  11. Collaborate with sales teams to review and approve project approaches, proposal content, and project plans.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, with expertise in building data pipelines and warehouses, and proficiency in programming languages like Python, SQL, and frameworks like Spark.
  2. 2+ years of experience working with major cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and experience with cloud migration.
  3. 2+ years of experience leading a team of Data Engineers, including performance management, mentoring, and hiring.
  4. Solid experience with data integration, ETL solutions, and modern data engineering languages and platforms.
  5. Degree in Engineering fields or related industry experience or acumen.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Specialized training or certification in data engineering technologies or platforms.
  2. Previous consulting experience.
