Job Summary

The Government of Northwest Territories seeks a highly skilled Environmental Management Specialist to join its team in Fort Simpson. As an integral part of the Department of Environment and Climate Change, this role plays a crucial role in ensuring the wise and sustainable use of natural resources.

Responsibilities
  • Provision of inspection and enforcement at the regional level to ensure compliance with water resource management objectives.
  • Provide expert technical advisory services to government departments, non-government organizations, clients, and stakeholders on water resource management, protection, and conservation.
  • Conduct environmental inspections and investigations for water licenses and spills, as well as support regional input into environmental assessments, permits, and licensing related to water and land use and waste disposal.

This position is located in Fort Simpson and reports directly to the Regional Superintendent, receiving functional direction from the Senior Water Resource Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with various Acts pertaining to water resource management and environmental protection through education, prevention, and enforcement.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field, along with three years of experience in renewable resource development, water resource management, or a related sector.
  • Equivalency of a combination of education and work experience that includes a minimum Diploma in Environment and Natural Resources Tech Program and five years of directly associated water management, regulatory, compliance enforcement, and environmental assessment experience.
  • Prior experience with government or private industry related to mining and milling or the oil and gas sector is considered an asset.
Compensation Package

The salary range for this position is estimated to be between $85,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. The package also includes comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development within the Government of Northwest Territories.
