Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our corporate modality, while also providing technical support to staff and maintaining regulatory equipment and inventory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance to laboratory staff, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain regulatory equipment and inventory, ensuring compliance with IQMH accreditation and hospital requirements.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that the work of assigned staff meets quality and safety standards, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Manage reagents, quality control, supplies, and consumables, ensuring that they are properly stored and utilized.
  • Training and Development: Provide bench orientation and training to front-line staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory assistant/technician program or equivalent education (CSMLS).
  • Certification: Certification and registration with CSMLS or OSMT is required.
  • Experience: Minimum three years specimen receiving experience as a laboratory assistant/technician required.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and experience with hospital information systems, laboratory information systems, and Paradigm document control software.
