Shop Supervisor

The Shop Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day activities of the shop personnel, ensuring that all company objectives are met in regards to safety, quality, productivity, and cost. This position reports to the Focus Shop Manager, with shop personnel reporting directly to this position.
Key Responsibilities- Safety Compliance
- Conduct regular safety audits and issue work orders to maintenance for any malfunctioning or unsafe machinery.
- Hold toolbox talks at the beginning of each shift to heighten awareness of safety during the work day.
- Perform accident investigations with JHSC and EHS as required, ensuring personal protective equipment is in place and training employees on its use.
- Conduct safe observations through the Dupont Safety Observation Program.
- Schedule Achievement
- Work with Schedulers to achieve daily targets and ensure on-time delivery.
- Order special tools required and collaborate with design/manufacturing engineers to design fixtures and resolve component deficiencies.
- Perform temporary transfers of employees and communicate schedules to shop personnel.
- Manage Shop Personnel
- Manage shop personnel according to collective agreement and maintain a professional relationship with employees.
- Manage attendance, time, and vacation of shop personnel and perform manual computer inputting to verify employee statuses.
- Provide coaching and issue discipline as needed.
- Cost Objectives
- Monitor production levels at individual machines and provide computer manual labor inputs with accuracy.
- Develop and initiate cost improvement activities, regularly reviewing productivity reports and discussing expectations with employees.
- Training
- Ensure all employees are trained in BWXT's procedures and support quality and safety objectives.
- College Diploma (Technical, Welding Technician, Fitter, Fabricator, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 to 10 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with SAP is an asset.
The base salary range for this position in Ontario is expected to be between $82,000 and $124,000 per year. The total compensation package may include additional elements, such as an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
