Position Overview

Under the general oversight of the Program Team Manager and a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), the Health Care Aide (HCA) serves as an integral member of the healthcare team. This role involves assisting with patient care and delivering fundamental supportive services as designated, while the ultimate responsibility for patient care remains with the Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.

Experience

The following provisions will apply in accordance with the Health Care Aide job description:

  • Health Care Aides (NA 2's) employed prior to the established date are considered to meet the educational prerequisites.
  • Employees of St. Boniface Hospital who were not in a Health Care Aide (NA 2) role but have accumulated at least six months of experience as a Health Care Aide within the last five years are deemed to fulfill the educational requirements.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Successful completion of an accredited Health Care Aide certificate program.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize assigned tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to respond to multiple simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to collaborate as a team member and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with others.

Physical Requirements

  • Good physical health with the capacity to lift and transport heavy patients.
  • Willingness to work in high-pressure environments that may involve aggressive or agitated individuals.
