About the Role

The Locomotive Operations Specialist will be responsible for training, supervising, and coaching Locomotive Engineers (LEs) and Student LEs on locomotive operations, as well as training handling and general locomotive engineer responsibilities.

Main ResponsibilitiesTraining and Development

• Develop and deliver training programs for LEs and Student LEs on locomotive operations, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities.

• Review and analyze Locomotive Event Recorders (LER) data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

• Collaborate with the training team to develop and implement training materials and programs.

• Conduct annual and triennial evaluations of LEs and Student LEs to ensure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• Analyze LER data to identify root causes of train delays and other operational issues.

• Develop and implement solutions to improve locomotive operations and reduce train delays.

• Collaborate with the operations team to identify and address operational issues.

Communication and Collaboration

• Provide guidance and assistance to Divisional Officers on locomotive operations, train handling, and LE roles and concerns.

• Interact and make recommendations to Transportation Managers, General Managers, Senior Vice Presidents, Rail Traffic Control Centre personnel, Crew Management Centre personnel, Labor Relations, and Risk Management.

• Collaborate with the operations team to develop and implement safety procedures and protocols.

RequirementsExperience

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a certified Locomotive Engineer.

Education/Certification/Designation

• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).

• LE certification in the U.S.

• Valid Driver's License.

• Certified in the United States Operating Rules (USOR) and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).

Competencies

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

• Strong knowledge of locomotive operations, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities.

• Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French).
