Job Summary

The Engine Service Officer is a critical role responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of locomotives. This position requires a strong understanding of railway operations, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Main Responsibilities
  • Train and supervise Locomotive Engineers, Student Locomotive Engineers, and Conductor Locomotive Operators on locomotive operations, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities.
  • Monitor employee actions and safety performance, providing coaching, correction, and reporting as needed.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and assistance to Divisional Officers on locomotive operation, train handling matters, and locomotive engineer roles and concerns.
  • Analyze and interpret Locomotive Event Recorder data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and sustain the right employee behaviors through feedback, recognition, reinforcement, and coaching.
  • Make recommendations for cost control and asset utilization in planning and execution of training.
Requirements
  • Between 3 to 5 years of service as a qualified Locomotive Engineer.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Railway Employee Qualification Standards for Operating Crew Regulation (QSOC) and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualification.
  • Valid Driver's Licence.
Working Conditions

The role requires frequent travel (30%) within Canada and the United States. The incumbent must hold a valid passport and be available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents.
