About the Role

Avison Young is seeking an experienced attorney to join its legal team as a Corporate Counsel - Litigation and Corporate Transactions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a wide range of matters, including commercial disputes and collections, and providing legal advice and counsel to internal clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and resolve pre-litigation disputes, identifying legal risk and potential litigation
  • Provide end-to-end legal support for commercial transactions, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating transactional documents
  • Partner with Avison Young's senior management, finance, and local company offices to ensure timely and effective decision-making
  • Identify risk and changes in the law, regulations, and business environment, and proactively set and execute strategies to mitigate risk and position the company for success
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • At least 3 years of litigation experience
  • Proven track record of managing or handling commercial litigation
  • Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts and related documents
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex matters in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Law firm experience in litigation
  • French language skills and/or familiarity with Quebec law
