About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Specialist, Policy and Planning to join our team at Ontario Health. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of laboratory medicine programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Manager and other clinical and technical team leads to provide support on key business activities for the program.
  • Act as a liaison and work with other program areas as well as external organizations and stakeholders to develop, consolidate, and coordinate information in response to requests and requirements.
  • Conduct detailed jurisdictional scans and literature reviews on relevant policies, regulations, research, and programs, to capture the evolving laboratory medicine landscape.
  • Research, analyze, and generate information and maintain a detailed knowledge of qualitative and quantitative inputs to support quality improvement initiatives, planning, and implementation.
  • Support the manager, leads, and other team members in the development and maintenance of work plans.
  • Plan and manage small projects concurrently to ensure completion of deliverables in a timely fashion.
  • Apply knowledge to participate and lead, where appropriate, engagement activities, working groups, expert panels, and other laboratory stakeholder discussions.
  • Present materials for review and information purposes using excellent written, verbal, and graphical communications skills, with ability to express complex concepts effectively.
  • Make recommendations and/or identify solutions to address challenges or mitigating risks.
  • Identify and improve existing processes, knowledge, and tools on an ongoing basis by defining the problem, evaluating alternatives and making recommendations.
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues, external partners, and teams across OH to support program priorities.
  • Responsible for developing products including but not limited to briefing notes, reports, executive summaries, protocols, and presentations for key stakeholders (Ministry, Ontario Health) and committees to support internal and external communication and decision-making.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses to support project and/or program goals, as required.
  • Perform cross-functional and/or other duties to support the team, as assigned.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline (Health Science, Health Administration, Business Administration, Public Health), or recognized equivalent is required; Master's degree is an asset.
  • 3-6 years of related experience working within the health care sector is required.
  • An understanding of Ontario's healthcare system; familiarity with laboratory medicine is an asset.
  • Experience in the health care system, and more specifically with government agencies, LHINs, and/or public health agencies, is preferred; knowledge of laboratory medicine is an asset.
  • Expertise and experience in qualitative analysis, literature searches, policy analysis, and business strategy, and the ability to translate information into summaries, briefs, or business cases.
  • Experience engaging and working directly with health system stakeholders and health service providers; engaging patients, caregivers, First Nations, Inuit, Metis, urban Indigenous, and special populations is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of health policy, health research, and social determinants of health and population health.
  • Strong knowledge and experience conducting literature reviews and environmental scans.
  • Experience in synthesizing clear and concise recommendations based on a large and complex body of evidence.
  • Excellent organizational skills; responsible and highly motivated; must be able to manage multiple tasks, prioritize and effectively anticipate and respond to issues as they arise.
  • Detail-oriented and process-driven with a demonstrated ability to produce high quality work consistently and effectively.
  • Excellent skills in explaining complex concepts in a manner which is simple and easy to understand.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently and interact comfortably with all levels of organization and personnel.
  • Strong ability to deal with ambiguity and flexibility to pivot to adapt to changing demands.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders to establish trust, credibility, and respect.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to inclusion and health equity are considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word; experience with Project an asset.
