Railserve Switchman

Railserve, Canada is seeking a skilled Switchman to join our team. As a Switchman, you will be responsible for operating electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives, pumping liquid chemicals, and interpreting train orders and signals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives
  • Pumping liquid chemicals, liquid petroleum products, and other liquids from tank cars
  • Interpreting train orders, signals, and rules and regulations
  • Transporting freight
  • Timely and correct switching and placement of rail cars

Requirements:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) preferred but not required
  • Military experience helpful
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization

This incumbent regularly works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
