Railserve, Canada is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Rail Switchman. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight across our rail network.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives to transport freight across our rail network.
  • Pump liquid chemicals, liquid petroleum products, and other liquids from tank cars to ensure safe and efficient transportation.
  • Interpret train orders, signals, and rules and regulations to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Transport freight in a timely and correct manner, ensuring that rail cars are switched and placed accurately.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Military experience helpful.
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a team in a cooperative manner.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Work Environment:

This incumbent regularly works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
