Railserve Switchman

Railserve, Canada is seeking a skilled Switchman to join our team. As a Switchman, you will be responsible for operating electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives, pumping liquid chemicals, and transporting freight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate hand or ground throw switches, derails, gates, and other equipment.
  • Control movement of equipment by radio, hands, and lantern.
  • Apply and release hand brakes to secure or move equipment.
  • Handle air hoses, wheel chocks, coupling, and uncoupling of rail cars.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) preferred but not required.
  • Military experience helpful.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions.
  • Exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
