We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Recreation Therapy Associate to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing support to clients and families through the application of recreation intervention to promote holistic functioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide interventions to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient, or community settings, related to the client's leisure needs and overall plan of care.
- Practice in adherence to practice standards and scope of employment.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement recreation programs that meet the unique needs of our clients.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify client needs and develop individualized recreation plans.
- Provide education and support to clients and families on recreation-based interventions and strategies.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary diploma with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution.
- BLS - C certification.
- Experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to assist in the plan, develop, implement, and evaluation of Recreation programs.
- Effective listening and communication skills; ability to motivate patients/veterans.
- Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills to changing patient populations and/or worksites.
- Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
- Ability to understand medical terminology used in a clinical area, and use within the documentation.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
