Job Summary
The Disability Benefits Coordinator will play a critical role in our team, responsible for reviewing and setting up new disability and life waiver claims. This includes verifying members' eligibility and providing administrative support to our Disability Payment Specialists. The successful candidate will also be our primary contact with School Boards and will be responsible for addressing Member inquiries about the LTD claim status.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and review new disability claims and life waivers to ensure all documents have been submitted and completed properly for processing.
- Verify eligibility and correspond with appropriate parties for outstanding information.
- Ensure claim systems are updated with accurate financial information for the Disability Life reserve feed.
- Provide information to school board and union plan administrators, members, affiliates, and other members of the Group Life and Disability Claims department.
- Complete follow-up on LTD matters by contacting appropriate parties via letter, email, or telephone.
- Handle and manage telephone inquiries from Members regarding their long-term disability benefits and claim status through the GL&DC telephone queue.
- Maintain a comprehensive log and diary system to track, follow-ups, and claim status.
- Review group policies and departmental manuals to accurately apply contractual provisions and claims administration processes.
- Prepare and process responses to Members, Unions, and School Board representatives in accordance with established standards.
- Initiate the new claim application process, which includes coordinating, preparing, and distributing claims kits.
- Responsible for the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability application process.
- Keep LTD claim information confidential to protect operations.
Qualifications
About You
We are looking for an experienced and skilled Disability Benefits Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary diploma or degree and two to three years of experience in group insurance and a strong understanding of policy language and application. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications is required, as is exceptional communication and time management skills.
