Job Description:

As a Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Assistant at North York General Hospital, you will play a crucial role in implementing treatment plans for patients in the Neuro/Stroke department. Your expertise will be utilized to facilitate patient mobility, independence, and overall rehabilitation outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement exercise programs for patients on an individual or group basis, under the supervision of a physiotherapist.
  • Assist with gait training and patient transfers, demonstrating safe lifting techniques to ensure a healthy environment for staff, patients, and families.
  • Conduct individual activities of daily living (ADL) training with patients to promote independence, as prescribed by the occupational therapist.
  • Lead therapeutic activity groups under the supervision of an occupational therapist, promoting patient engagement and motivation.
  • Set up and manage equipment and supplies, maintaining a clean and hazard-free environment.
  • Document patient progress and workload data in a timely manner, supporting the hospital's academic and research initiatives.
  • Act as a preceptor to occupational therapy assistant/physiotherapy assistant students, sharing your expertise and knowledge.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Diploma from an accredited college Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) program.
  • Ability to apply physiotherapeutic modalities and techniques.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Experience in a medical in-patient acute setting, with a focus on rehabilitation and patient mobility.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Word, internet searches, data entry, and patient information systems.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
