About the Role

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a highly skilled Scientific Associate to join our Brain Health Imaging Centre (BHIC) team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of our positron emission tomography (PET) scanners and associated equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement PET methodology to overcome challenges in image quantification, particularly for newer PET scanners.
  • Acquire and process data for physical characterization tests of PET systems, dosimetry, quality control, and calibration.
  • Analyze human PET and MRI image data, develop image analysis pipelines, and provide training to researchers and trainees.
  • Implement methods to enter and organize data into standard data structures used in research, such as the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS).
  • Set up and maintain shared computing and software resources for authorized users within BHIC, and oversee data management, including backup and storage.
  • Collaborate with the Methodology Team, including Staff Scientists, other Scientific Associates, and trainees, to maintain data integrity and integrate PET data into subsequent analysis.
  • Develop and enable data quality control pipelines to satisfy regulatory requirements for clinical studies.
  • Investigate and validate new knowledge, imaging, and analysis methods in imaging sciences.
  • Provide training to CAMH staff and trainees, and prepare standard operating procedures and related documentation.
Requirements
  • PhD in a discipline relevant to PET physics and/or medical physics.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience with quantitative modeling and medical imaging.
  • Experience with quality maintenance of lab equipment, engineering physics, and/or PET tomographs is considered favorable.
  • Working understanding of PET methods, including system setup, calibrations, and necessary corrections for quantitative data generation.
  • Experience with scripting and software development, imaging data structures, and network monitoring software is an asset.
  • Expertise in quantitative modeling, kinetic modeling, regional analysis, and parametric mapping is also an asset.
  • Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) status is mandatory and will be arranged for the successful candidate.
  • Excellent written and communication skills are essential.
