Job Title: Principal Planner - Urban Growth

As a key member of the Planning and Environment Services team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Edmonton's growth and development. Your expertise in urban planning will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies that balance physical, social, economic, and environmental considerations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the growth management program, advancing initiatives to support priority growth areas and conducting analysis of market housing affordability.
  • Collaborate with technical resources and subject matter experts to develop strategies and solutions to advance the growth management program.
  • Apply sophisticated understanding of urban and regional planning to complex policy issues and identify solutions in support of evidence-based decision making.
  • Identify and test planning and growth management related risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare and revise business cases and project charters to advance the work of the growth management program.
  • Provide support in defining and communicating Edmonton's growth management program to Council, Committees, senior management, other departments, and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning or a closely related discipline.
  • ~4 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal, intermunicipal and/or regional planning, civic infrastructure planning, and municipal finance.
  • Knowledge and experience with at least two of the following: strategic policy development, land development policy and process, municipal finance, and civic infrastructure planning.
Asset:
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is an asset.
