Job Title: Educational Counsellor

Western British Columbia Polytechnic College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Counsellor to join our team. As an Educational Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in achieving their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Consult with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Coordinate the provision of counselling and information services to students, parents, and teachers.
  • Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests to inform student placement and career decisions.
  • Visit colleges and secondary schools to provide academic information to prospective students, their parents, and educational institutions.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia to promote student success.
  • Provide ongoing professional development, training, and consultative services to teachers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Evaluate curriculum programs and recommend improvements to ensure student success.
  • Develop teaching materials and other resources for program delivery to support student learning.
  • Advise students on course and academic matters, as well as career decisions, to ensure they are well-informed and prepared for their future.
Counselling Specialization:
  • Academic program or credit evaluation to ensure students are on the right path.
  • Career or post-secondary training orientation to help students make informed decisions.
  • Co-operative education or work placement to provide students with hands-on experience.
  • Multicultural adjustment to support students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Support for students with learning disabilities to ensure equal access to education.
Personal Suitability:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively convey information and ideas.
  • Judgement to make informed decisions and provide guidance to students.
  • Organized and reliable to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented to ensure high-quality work.
