Tourism Development Officer II

Anishinabek Employment & Training Services is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Tourism Development Officer II. In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking moderately complex projects related to tourism and economic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of a project team to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Undertake a broad spectrum of destination development projects related to tourism and economic development, including research and analysis of tourism and economic development opportunities.
  • Engage with sport event organizations and attract sport tourism events to the region.
  • Perform detailed analysis and prepare strategic and promotional plans to support tourism and economic development initiatives.
  • Conduct research projects, funding applications, and feasibility studies to support business development and economic growth.
  • Initiate and conduct discussions and negotiations with the private and public sectors regarding tourism and economic development opportunities.
  • Provide information to prospective entrepreneurs, agencies, and the community on matters relating to tourism and economic development opportunities.
  • Identify and promote improvement to and expansion of existing businesses or industries.
  • Collaborate with the City and provincial or federal levels of government, or other partners, to complete joint projects.

Requirements:

  • Degree in economics, business administration, or a related field along with three years' experience in economic or industrial development; or
  • Diploma in business administration, or a related field along with five years' experience in economic or industrial development.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work with entrepreneurs and be knowledgeable of the relevant provincial legislation regarding municipal economic development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software.
  • Familiarity with markets and marketing, tourism and economic development opportunities.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement when dealing with confidential or sensitive issues.
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
