About the Role
Black & McDonald's Western Utilities team is seeking a committed and collaborative individual to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team. As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for performing and leading general activities on underground URD distribution construction sites in Calgary and surrounding areas.
You will liaise with tradespersons, coordinators, managers, and site superintendent personnel to accomplish project milestones in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
- Take initiative to lead a URD team.
- Load and unload construction materials and move materials to work areas.
- Assist tradespersons as required.
- Provide direction and guidance to heavy equipment operators.
- Install various utilities and be familiar with specifications requirements with Fortis, Atco Gas, Shaw/Rogers, and TELUS.
- Level earth/sand/gravel to fine grade specifications.
- Operate pneumatic tools, tampers, and tools as directed.
- Direct traffic at or near construction sites.

Education Requirements
- High School Diploma
Work Experience Requirements
- 2-5 years' experience in the construction industry in a General Laborer role, on utilities (electrical/civil) projects.
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements
- Ability to work safely
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Valid Alberta Drivers License, Class 5 (or 3), and a clean drivers abstract
- Ground Disturbance Certification
- Construction Safety Certifications
