About This Career Opportunity
Black & McDonald's Western Utilities team is growing, and we're looking for a dedicated and collaborative individual to join our hard-working, innovative team.
The Lead Hand is responsible for performing and leading general activities on year-round underground URD distribution construction sites in Calgary and surrounding areas. They will work closely with tradespersons, coordinators, managers, and site superintendent personnel to accomplish project milestones in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Take initiative to lead a URD team and ensure successful project outcomes.
- Load and unload construction materials and move materials to work areas.
- Assist tradespersons (electricians) as required and provide direction and guidance to heavy equipment operators.
- Operate pneumatic tools, tampers, and other equipment as directed.
- Direct traffic at or near construction sites and perform other activities as directed.

Education Requirements
- High School Diploma
Work Experience Requirements
- 2-5 years' experience working in the construction industry in a General Laborer role, on utilities (electrical/civil) projects.
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements
- Ability to work safely and in a team environment.
- Possesses a valid Alberta Drivers License, Class 5 (or 3), and a clean drivers abstract.
- Experience in reading and interpreting utility locates/blueprint drawings and ordering materials such as aggregates.
- Ground Disturbance Certification and Construction Safety Certifications are considered assets.
