The Rehabilitation Assistant at Runnymede Healthcare Centre plays a vital role in supporting patients in their recovery journey. This position requires a graduate from a recognized Occupational Therapist Assistant / Physiotherapist Assistant program. Previous experience working with seniors in a healthcare setting under the direction of an OT/PT/Kin is an asset.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting individual and group therapy sessions under the direction of the Occupational Therapist (OT) and/or Physiotherapist (PT) and/or Kinesiologist (Kin).
  • Monitoring and progressing patient's therapy program as needed within the range directed by the OT and/or PT and/or Kinesiologist.
  • Transferring, and ambulating patients, and supervising exercise programs as assigned by the OT and/or PT and/or Kinesiologist.
  • Positioning patients and performing range of motion exercises directed and assigned by the OT and/or PT and/or Kinesiologist.
  • Training and instructing patients in completing Activities of Daily Living under the supervision of the OT.
  • Assembling and installing assistive technology and devices and training patients in their use under the direction of the OT.
  • Providing assistance to the OT/PT/Kin during treatment.
  • Preparing and applying modalities as directed by the OT/PT/Kin.
  • Transporting patients to and from the therapy area.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:

  • Graduate from a recognized Occupational Therapist Assistant / Physiotherapist Assistant program.
  • Experience in a Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing Care or Acute Care Hospital preferred.
  • Previous experience working with seniors in a healthcare setting under the direction of an OT/PT/Kin an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with geriatric, neurological and MSK conditions.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Effective verbal and written communication to successfully work with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
