Job Summary:

The University of Lethbridge seeks a highly skilled and experienced Regional Lead to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Southern Alberta Medical Program. This is a unique opportunity to develop and implement a high-quality rural distributed medical education program, supporting medical education training in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Indigenous and rural communities throughout Southern Alberta.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the Southern Alberta Medical Program's vision, mission, and strategic goals in alignment with the Cumming School of Medicine's strategic plan and the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Lethbridge.
  • Establish productive relationships across the Cumming School of Medicine departments, including Undergraduate Medical Education, Post Graduate Medical Education, and Distributed Learning and Rural Initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with Southern Alberta physicians and with Alberta Health Services to develop site-level training for medical learners in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, as well as Indigenous communities, Indigenous Health organizations, and rural sites in Southern Alberta.
  • Oversee the work of the Regional Project Manager and chair committee(s)/subcommittee(s) relevant to program development and implementation.
  • Ensure work is responsive to quality assurance and educational requirements to meet accreditation standards.
  • Develop and launch the SAMP medical education program in partnership with the Cumming School of Medicine and the University of Lethbridge.
  • Align program goals with Indigenous reconciliation and equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.

Requirements:

  • Must be a physician who is eligible for or possesses an unrestricted practice licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Advanced education or experience with healthcare management, administration, or medical education is considered an asset.
  • Experience in leadership or administration.
  • Experience practicing in southern Alberta or another rural region is preferred.
  • Experience in a distributed medical education setting is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for medical education programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and problem-solve in a dynamic environment.
  • Upholds principles of reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
