Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Youth Justice Worker to join our team. As a key member of our YCAPP team, you will work with young people and their families to navigate the youth justice system, providing support and guidance to help them achieve their immediate and medium-term goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement community-based interventions that respond to individual strengths and needs.
  • Assess and review client referrals, conducting intake and providing services to address risk, barriers, and protective factors.
  • Communicate and explain criminal justice processes with clients, including court processes, alternative measures, and community service orders.
  • Ensure sanctions, referrals, programming, and community service placements are appropriate, proportionate, accessible, and meaningful to meet the needs of the client, victim, community, and funder.
  • Crisis intervention skills to resolve incidents and other contentious issues, monitor client progress, and report on case outcomes.
Requirements
  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in the social sciences, child and youth care, or social work.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with youth who have experienced trauma from a trauma-informed framework.
  • Strong understanding of systemic barriers faced by young people and how they impact youth and their experiences.
  • Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and its application of extrajudicial measures and sanctions.
  • Direct experience engaging with diverse populations and applying a culturally responsive lens to all interactions.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in developing and administering creative community-based interventions.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders effectively, respectfully, and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis prevention and intervention.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills to prioritize and deal with issues as they arise.
  • Effective use of technology, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong administrative and time management skills to collect, analyze, and prepare statistical reports accurately and on time.
  • Ability to positively represent the agency in outreach activities.
  • Excellent teamwork and ability to work independently and under pressure.
