Job Summary:

This position reports directly to the Sr. Engineering Manager and is responsible for leading the Project Engineering Team within the Carmeuse Systems group. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, directing, controlling, and evaluating activities within the project engineering group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership: Supporting the growth and development of the project engineering team.
  • Client Engagement: Consulting and negotiating with clients to explain proposals for change and present engineering reports and findings.
  • Project Coordination: Attending client meetings and project review meetings as needed to support work in progress.
  • Work Assignment: Assigning, coordinating, and reviewing work within the department.
  • Document Review: Overseeing document and drawing reviews, specification reviews.
  • Collaboration: Liaising with relevant professional staff, including engineers, architects, fabricators, contractors, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Product Definition: Ensuring that the product is fully and correctly defined and documented.
  • Vendor Evaluation: Evaluating vendors.
  • Policies and Procedures: Developing and implementing policies, standards, and procedures for the project engineering team and technical work performed.
  • Mentorship: Mentoring and coaching project engineering team members.
  • Compliance: Complying with ISO 9001 requirements, reviewing, and updating processes on a yearly basis.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring that relevant drawings are reviewed, verified, and validated according to company quality procedures.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensuring and enforcing compliance to all company, client, and legislated safety policies and procedures.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.
Job Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years' related experience.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience leading teams of direct reports in a hybrid work environment across multiple locations.
  • Education: Bachelor of Engineering (mechanical preferred), Professional Engineer an asset.
  • Personal Qualities: Must have integrity, self-awareness, courage, respect, compassion, and resilience.
  • Communication Skills: Must be learning agile and able to flex their influence while communicating the vision, showing gratitude, and collaborating effectively.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Analytical, problem solver with a practical approach.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong technical understanding of engineering systems and processes.
  • Delegation and Development: Effective delegation/distribution of workload; professional development/growth of team members.
  • Software Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), CAD, 3D modeling software (Solidworks), and project/scheduling software.
  • Communication Skills: Good communication skills.
  • Approachability: Approachable.
  • Discipline Knowledge: Deep knowledge of own discipline and good understanding of other engineering disciplines.
  • Construction Methods: Strong understanding of the construction methods needed to make changes to process equipment already in use.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of industry, regulatory, and safety codes and standards such as ASME, API, OSHA, MSHA, etc.

  • Organizational Skills: Must apply strong organizational skills on a daily basis in the role.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrate ability to collaborate with cross-functional groups and provide objective input for development of practical solutions.

  • Software Skills: Working knowledge of software typical in engineering work (CAD, MS Office Suite).
  • Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate in and around heavy industrial equipment and construction sites.
  • Communication Skills: Should communicate very effectively both in written and presentation form.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Team player by utilizing strong interpersonal skills to relate well to all kinds of people inside and outside the organization.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivated and understands objectives and is proactive in their approach to achieve them.

Work Environment:
  • Work Hours: Typical hours: 37.5 hour work weeks – hours vary due to work. Additional hours may be required.
  • Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort. Requires a moderate amount of sitting for prolonged periods of time while using the computer.
