Senior Compensation and Classification Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Compensation and Classification Consultant to join our People & Culture team at Saint Mary's University. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing expert advice on classification and compensation-related issues, ensuring internal equity and adherence to policy.
Key Responsibilities- Consult with senior leaders to determine strategic needs for departments and divisions, and develop and evaluate new positions.
- Lead and participate in projects to streamline processes, maintain records, and conduct market research and benchmarking.
- Provide compensation recommendations, ensuring internal equity and adherence to policy, and interpret and administer language governing job evaluation and salary administration in collective agreements and Human Resource policies and procedures.
- Conduct market research, trend analysis, and compile compensation data to assist in the design of compensation programs.
- Work with the Associate Vice President, People & Culture, to develop, coordinate, and implement various projects.
- Bachelor's degree with courses in Human Resources and/or Compensation or Job Design or an acceptable equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years' compensation and classification experience consulting, collaborating, and leading projects or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Canadian Compensation Professional (CCP) or Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) is an asset.
- Experience conducting market analyses and job evaluations, working in a unionized public sector environment, and providing solutions-oriented advice to managers and people leaders.
- Advanced working knowledge of relevant employment, labour, and human rights legislation and regulations, and thorough knowledge of the compensation cycle, including salary administration, surveys, and market analysis.
