At North York General Hospital, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and creating a positive work environment for our staff. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cleaner - Environmental Services to join our team.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing general housekeeping activities in a hospital setting, adhering to established guidelines for health and safety, infection control, and quality management. This includes working independently and as part of a team, communicating effectively with colleagues, staff, and residents, and providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work safely in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines
  • Operate cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, auto scrubbers, and carpet extractors
  • Read, write English, and follow written instructions
  • Walk, stand, reach, kneel, and lift weights up to 30 lbs. and push carts on wheels
  • Dust, sweep, and damp mop floors
  • Collect garbage and handle waste
  • Replenish supplies
  • Strip, disinfect, and make discharged beds ready for new admissions
  • Move furniture
  • Wax, strip floors/heavy cleaning, isolation, etc.
  • Clean patient and clinical areas, including carpet and chair wash, etc.
  • Set-up, including opening and closing walls, moving chairs and tables

Requirements

  • Grade XII diploma or equivalent
  • Certified in Health and Safety - preferred
  • Previous cleaning experience with micro fiber system
  • Ability to read, write English, and follow written instructions
  • Ability to communicate with residents and staff
  • Good understanding of chemical and equipment use, including vacuum cleaners, auto scrubbers, and carpet extractors
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Bilingualism in French/English - an asset
