Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Home and Community Care Support Services. As a Rehabilitation Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting patients in their homes and communities, helping them to achieve their rehabilitation goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement treatment plans with patients under the direction of registered physiotherapists (PTs)
  • Assist registered therapists with patient assessments and treatment programs, in accordance with professional guidelines
  • Utilize technology to receive clinical support from directing therapists and implement treatment plans
  • Complete and maintain documentation regarding patient intervention, in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
  • Meet with registered therapists regularly to discuss patient treatment plans and evaluate patient progress
  • Promote maximum independence of patients in their homes, communities, and workplaces, to support re-integration into the community
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, and professional guidelines
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy environment by following safe work procedures, reporting injuries, illnesses, and unsafe working conditions

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapist Assistant 2-year diploma program
  • PTA/OTA certification recognized by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) and the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) required
  • Previous experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant in a healthcare setting within the last two years
  • Ability to work collaboratively with registered therapists and accept work direction when assisting with patient interventions
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse patient groups with varying levels of comprehension and language capability
  • Considerable interpersonal skills are required when interacting with organizational staff, external vendors, or outside organizations
  • Must have access to a vehicle and possess a valid Ontario Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience assisting registered therapists in a community/healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy and physiotherapy professions
  • Clear understanding of the scope and limitations of the Rehabilitation Assistant's role and their relationship with the registered therapist
  • General understanding of the roles of healthcare professionals and other organizational patient services staff
  • Knowledge of equipment, modalities, materials, and intervention processes used in the provision of occupational therapy and physiotherapy services
  • Familiar with rehabilitation principles and clinical terminology used in interventions
  • Ability to prioritize multiple, competing demands
  • Knowledge of applicable COTO and/or CPO professional guidelines
  • Good knowledge of organizational business objectives, priorities, practices, and procedures
