Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing support to individuals with vision loss, working collaboratively with our rehabilitation team to enhance their provision of Vision Loss Rehabilitation Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the implementation of rehabilitation plans and programs, working under the direction of our rehabilitation specialists.
  • Provide input into the planning, implementation, modification, and evaluation of rehabilitative treatment plans, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Support individuals with sight loss in developing adaptive skills for independent living, including personal management, household management, and basic indoor orientation and mobility skills.
  • Assist with the maintenance and inventory of adaptive devices, and demonstrate consumer products and low vision aids.
  • Monitor and evaluate treatment and care plans, reporting observations and progress to the rehabilitation specialist.
  • Provide functional direction to clients and other collaterals to maximize their rehabilitation process.
  • Maintain accurate case data and documentation, consistent with VLRC Systems and Procedures.
  • Collaborate with the rehabilitation team in service delivery, coordinate travel schedules, and facilitate program development.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education and/or prior experience in a rehabilitation assistant program, occupational or physical therapy assistant program, social work, or related field.
  • Previous working/volunteering experience working with individuals who are blind or partially sighted, or a combined loss of hearing and sight, is an asset.
  • Clean Criminal Record required; Criminal Reference Check required for vulnerable populations.
