The Staff Nurse provides professional nursing care to clients as a member of a multidisciplinary team. This role involves coordinating and administering direct client care utilizing the nursing process, providing direction to auxiliary personnel and staff, and responding to emergency situations to safeguard clients, visitors and staff.
QualificationsRegistration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant is required. Additionally, Basic Life Support, Level C certification is necessary for general duty staff nurse positions. Post-basic education and up to one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience are also required.
- Specialty unit nurse positions, such as Operating Room, Post Anesthetic Recovery, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry, require specialty certification for the unit and up to two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Critical Care, Emergency and Intensive Care nurse positions require Advanced Cardiac Life Support and specialty certification, along with up to two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- The ability to apply the nursing process effectively in a well-organized manner to the care of assigned patients is essential.
- The physical ability to perform the duties of the position is also required.
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are necessary for success in this role.
- The ability to remain calm and act appropriately in stressful and emergency situations is crucial.
