Job Summary

The Baker/Breakfast Cook is a key member of our culinary team, responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast and baked goods to the highest standards of Horizon North.

This position requires a high level of skill and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering exceptional quality and service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake goods from scratch, using a variety of ingredients and techniques to create delicious and visually appealing dishes.
  • Restock pastry shelves and maintain a sufficient and fresh supply of baked goods, ensuring that our clients have access to a wide range of options.
  • Create and follow menus to ensure quality of baked goods and desserts, taking into account client preferences and dietary requirements.
  • Wrap and date all baked goods in accordance with production schedule, ensuring that they are properly labeled and stored.
  • Ensure consistent quality standard in over-all food preparation as per clients' requirements, including consideration to special dietary constraints.
  • Ensure proper equipment operation, safety and sanitation in the kitchen, adhering to food hygiene regulations and company policies.
  • Supervise night shift employees, providing mentorship and training to ensure that they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Interprovincial Red Seal Certification or some culinary education leading to Red Seal.
  • FoodSafe Level I is minimum, with SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification being an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years' cooking and baking experience in a similar or hotel/institutional environment.
  • Proven experience preparing baked goods for large number of guests.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Successful candidates MUST obtain a mark of 80% or higher on the mandatory WHMIS test (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
