About the Role

As a key member of the Safety & Risk Services senior management team, you will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and overseeing the University's Insurance and Loss Prevention program. This strategic position is responsible for managing a $10 million budget, including comprehensive insurance portfolios, contracts, and agreements. You will lead the development of risk management strategies, procure insurance placements, and manage claims effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement risk-based decision making on insurance procurement and financial management.
  • Provide expert guidance to institutional committees on risk management integration into informed decision making.
  • Lead assessments and evaluations of insurable risks and hazards, providing mitigation strategies to reduce the risk profile within acceptable operational thresholds.
  • Manage the university's claims management program, developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and maintaining an effective claims framework.
  • Oversee the loss prevention program, identifying, assessing, and evaluating potential hazard risks, recommending preventive measures to mitigate losses.
  • Renewals of insurance policies and initiation of new types of insurance as required.
  • Consider alternative risk financing and loss prevention options for institutional risks.
  • Analyze risk and formulate risk management strategies aligned with the institutional appetite and Safety & Risk Services Strategic Plan.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and completion of the CPA accounting program (CA, CGA or CMA).
  • Minimum ten years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

This role requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment. Experience in post-secondary education institution and/or public sector is a strong asset.
