About the Role

The University of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled Communications Manager to join the Department of Computer Science. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in shaping the department's communications strategy and promoting its research and academic programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the department's mission and goals
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership in communications, marketing, branding, events, and public affairs
  • Work closely with departmental leadership, faculty, and staff to advise on best practices in communications, events, and media relations
  • Develop and foster relationships with key institutional and external stakeholders
  • Manage and lead a communications team, including staff in a unionized environment
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the department's website and social media presence

Qualifications

  • University degree or applied college degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in public affairs, journalism, communications, and/or marketing
  • Minimum 6 to 8 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, and media relations
  • Extensive experience in media relations and successfully managing complex projects
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and advising senior leaders
  • Experience developing strategic marketing & communication plans
  • Experience creating and executing comprehensive and integrated campaigns
  • Sound working knowledge and experience in all aspects of web-based communications

Skills

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple complex marketing & communications projects
  • Proficiency in developing content for multi-platform communications
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Excellent oral and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated creativity and ability to think strategically
  • Detail oriented
  • Understanding of social media and other platforms
  • Strong research skills, with proven ability to perform market research, analyze research data and identify trends
