About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Metallurgical Engineer to join our Product Development team at Fordia. As an R&D Metallurgical Engineer, you will play a key role in driving innovation and improving our product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and analyze new diamond tools, ensuring they meet our product committee's priorities.
  • Characterize, analyze, and develop metallic and composite products manufactured by powder metallurgy, driving process improvements and quality enhancements.
  • Conduct studies on material properties and characteristics, informing product development and optimization.
  • Participate in testing and validation activities on mining exploration drilling sites, ensuring our products meet technical requirements.
  • Identify, develop, and supervise research and development partnerships with companies, organizations, and educational institutions, driving innovation and growth.
  • Monitor scientific directions and development opportunities through patent and technology watch activities.
  • Participate in site technician meetings to improve development project portfolios and gather feedback on products, competitors, and ongoing R&D projects.
  • Support the production department and subcontractors in resolving manufacturing issues.
  • Collaborate with the quality department to analyze internal or external non-conformities.
  • Provide technical training on drilling and products, adhering to our training plan.
  • Assist in applying for credits and grants for development projects.
  • Support the purchasing department in qualifying critical suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the continuous improvement department in deploying equipment impacting the manufacturing process.
Requirements
  • Hold a university degree in materials or metallurgical engineering.
  • Be a member of the OIQ/PEO or a candidate for the engineering profession (FARPACTA).
  • Have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Be bilingual (French and English) spoken and written.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Hold a valid passport.
  • Be prepared for business trips (4-6 weeks/year).
Desired Skills
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of product development and powder metallurgy processes.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing (an asset).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Sharp sense of customer service.
  • Established network of contacts in metallurgy and/or the industry (an asset).
  • Insight, adaptability, autonomy, relational agility, collaboration, results-oriented.
