About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Metallurgical Engineer to join our Product Development team at Fordia. As an R&D Metallurgical Engineer, you will play a key role in driving innovation and improving our product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and analyze new diamond tools, ensuring they meet our product committee's priorities.
  • Characterize, analyze, and develop metallic and composite products manufactured by powder metallurgy, leveraging your expertise to drive product improvement.
  • Conduct studies on the properties and characteristics of materials, providing valuable insights to inform our product development strategy.
  • Participate in testing and validation activities on mining exploration drilling sites, working closely with technicians to ensure our products meet the highest standards.
  • Identify, develop, and supervise research and development partnerships with companies, organizations, and educational institutions, driving innovation and growth.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activity, providing strategic insights to inform our product development roadmap.
  • Support the production department and subcontractors in resolving manufacturing issues, ensuring seamless product delivery.
  • Collaborate with the quality department to analyze internal and external non-conformities, driving continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical training on drilling and product usage, ensuring our customers have the knowledge they need to get the most out of our products.
  • Assist in the application process for development projects, ensuring we secure the necessary funding and resources.
  • Support the purchasing department in qualifying critical suppliers, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the continuous improvement department to deploy equipment that enhances our manufacturing process, driving efficiency and productivity.
Requirements
  • Hold a university degree in materials or metallurgical engineering.
  • Be a member of the OIQ/PEO or a candidate for the engineering profession (FARPACTA).
  • Have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Be bilingual (French and English) spoken and written.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Hold a valid passport.
  • Be prepared for regular business trips (4-6 weeks/year).
Desired Skills
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of product development and powder metallurgy processes.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing (an asset).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Sharp sense of customer service.
  • An established network of contacts in metallurgy and/or in the industry (an asset).
  • Insight, adaptability, autonomy, relational agility, collaboration, results-oriented.
