Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a strong knowledge and understanding of arc flash and electrical safety protocols, ensuring the safe operation of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Perform general care, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned equipment, vehicles, personal protective equipment (PPE), and tools.
  • Utilize work management software to track daily tasks, schedule, and time allocation, ensuring accurate documentation of work history.
  • Read, interpret, and redline electrical drawings to ensure accurate installation and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Assist in the installation, start-up, and commissioning of new facilities, equipment, and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with Canadian Electrical Code and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical malfunctions and failures, providing remediation measures and recommendations for preventative electrical maintenance.
  • Recommend and implement electrical solutions to maintain the function of operational infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Work on electrical systems operating at low and high voltages, up to and including 4160V, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform installations, inspections, sequence of operations, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all electrical and control systems infrastructure, including but not limited to, conductors, cables, conduits, control panels, motor control centers, motor control equipment, electric motors, overcurrent devices, power distribution, service entrances, backup generators, transfer switches, transformers, grounding systems, analog and discrete instrumentation, control devices, facility lighting/heating/ventilation/cooling systems, and miscellaneous electrical equipment.
  • Perform rotational standby duty, including after-hours work, unplanned, and emergency responses, as per operational requirements.
Requirements
  • Grade twelve or the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) equivalent.
  • Licensed Industrial Electrician with a certificate of qualification in an Industrial Electrician trade issued under the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act.
  • One year of experience as a journeyman industrial or construction electrician in an industrial setting.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial power systems.
  • A current certificate of qualification as an Industrial or Construction Electrician issued under the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License.
  • Willingness to undertake and maintain safety training, including First Aid, Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding, knowledge, and troubleshooting ability of industrial power distribution systems, controls, backup generators, and automation technology.
  • Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, excavation sites, and hazardous locations.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment functions, such as pumps, compressors/blowers, motors, gear boxes, actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, and valves.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Canadian Electrical Code and best practices.
  • Understanding of hazardous and explosion-proof systems.
  • Ability to use power tools, including but not limited to, grinder, drill, conduit threader, multimeter, insulation tester (meggar), hammer drill, coring drill, reciprocating saw, band saw, circular saw, crimper, hole punch, hoists.
