**Job Summary**

The primary role of a Vacuum Operator at GFL Environmental is to operate Vacuum Trucks (liquid and turbo) for various industrial customers. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of materials from one vessel to another location.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Operate liquid vacuum trucks independently, performing major duties such as liquid transfer of material from one vessel to another location.
  • Assist in the operation of turbo vacuum trucks, working in conjunction with a utility operator to complete tasks.
  • Complete required documentation, including waste manifests, bills of lading, and other necessary paperwork.
  • Obtain and complete customer safe work permits and any additional required documents for hauling materials.
  • Set up and take down equipment required for the job, ensuring all necessary tools and materials are available.
  • Perform the vacuuming of actual material from the job site, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Advise the utility operator on the proper equipment needed on the truck to complete the job, including hoses, fittings, and other necessary components.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of each vehicle, checking fluid levels, oil, anti-freeze, and other critical systems.
  • Diagnose and report any vehicle mechanical issues to the mechanic, ensuring prompt repair and minimizing downtime.
  • Conduct yard checks, ensuring all equipment and vehicles are properly maintained and stored.
  • Provide input and recommendations to management on processes and procedures, contributing to the improvement of our operations.
  • Perform general housekeeping on a daily basis, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Other assignments as directed by the Supervisor/Foreman.

**Requirements:**

  • High School Diploma
  • DZ license required, AZ license an asset
  • Clean drivers abstract
  • 1-3 years of work experience in a related field
  • Experience with the function, repair, and maintenance of vacuum and transfer pumps and industrial equipment an asset
  • Experience with the safe handling of hazardous waste and chemicals and safety regulations
  • Ability to follow road regulations and rules/procedures at customer sites
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Good customer service skills with an ability to speak and write in English
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Current safety training (WHMIS, IEC Contractor Safety, Transportation of Dangerous Goods)
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook

**Working Conditions:**

The majority of the work is local and takes place in an outside environment. As a Vacuum Operator at GFL Environmental, you will be working in a fast-paced industrial setting, requiring attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to safety.
