Vacuum Truck Operator

The Vacuum Truck Operator role at GFL Environmental is a key position that requires a high level of skill and expertise in operating vacuum trucks for industrial customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate liquid vacuum trucks independently, transferring materials from one vessel to another location.
- Assist with operating turbo vacuum trucks, working closely with a Utility Operator to complete tasks.
- Complete required documentation, including waste manifests and bills of lading.
- Obtain and complete customer safe work permits and other necessary documents for hauling materials.
- Set up and take down equipment required for the job.
- Vacuum actual material from the job site.
- Advise the Utility Operator on the necessary equipment needed to complete the job.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of each vehicle, checking fluid levels, oil, and anti-freeze.
- Diagnose and report any vehicle mechanical issues to the mechanic.
- Conduct yard checks.
- Provide input and recommendations to management on processes and procedures.
- Perform general housekeeping on a daily basis.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- DZ license required, AZ license an asset.
- Clean drivers abstract.
- 1-3 years of work experience in a related field.
- Experience with vacuum and transfer pumps, and industrial equipment.
- Safe handling of hazardous waste and chemicals, and safety regulations.
- Ability to follow road regulations and rules/procedures at customer sites.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Good customer service skills, with the ability to speak and write in English.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Current safety training (WHMIS, IEC Contractor Safety, Transportation of Dangerous Goods).
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Basic knowledge of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
Work Environment:
The majority of the work is local and takes place in an outside environment.
