Housing Stability Specialist

Good Shepherd Centres is seeking a highly skilled Housing Stability Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing respectful and appropriate housing support services to residential and non-residential clients.
The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in Social Service or a related field and minimum 1-year related experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in Social Services or a related field.
About the RoleThis role requires strong knowledge of the housing system in the City of Hamilton, the Residential Tenancies Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Code. The incumbent must be able to work independently in a challenging and rewarding values-based environment.
- Housing-focused short-term case management, eviction prevention, supportive counselling, education, and advocacy
- Provide eviction prevention services to youth, women, and families who are at imminent risk of homelessness and/or need intensive short-term support to stabilize and maintain housing
- Provide advocacy and education regarding the Residential Tenancies Act and the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords
- Provide targeted supports in an effort to increase housing stability and prevent future housing loss
The Housing Stability Specialist will work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to provide client-centered housing plans and support clients through home visits, accompaniment to appointments, attending Landlord and Tenant Board hearings, and meeting with other community agencies.
