Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 per year

Job Description

The Electrical Design Specialist will be working within an engineering and design team towards the design and execution of utility projects ranging in size and complexity. Key responsibilities include:

  • Create detailed electrical and civil designs for overhead and underground systems;
  • Review engineering designs and technical drawings;
  • Prepare budgetary and detailed cost estimates, including labour, material, and equipment;
  • Perform voltage drop calculations, cable pulling calculations, transformer and feeder loading checks, and other analysis as required;
  • Review construction in the field to ensure compliance with designs;
  • Maximize project revenue through unit pricing projects;
  • Collaborate with third parties to design make-ready work and facilitate joint use attachments;
  • Work with Legal to obtain easements and access agreements;
  • Verify existing site/electrical plant conditions;
  • Develop and review cost estimation templates, maintain cost database;
  • Coordinate work with stakeholders (customers, utilities, property managers, and internal groups);
  • Respond to escalated customer complaints to ensure concerns are addressed;
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Certified Technician status or working towards CET certification;
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Utility Design;
  • Prior Toronto Hydro or Hydro One distribution design experience is considered an asset;
  • Field experience is considered an asset;
  • Experience involving distribution design of overhead and underground systems, substation layouts, pole line design, and preparation of design packages;
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset;
  • Ability to generate and interpret electrical documents and technical reports;
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical safety standards, legislation, and regulations;
  • Knowledge of SAP and GEAR technology is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
