Diesel Truck Mechanic

This position demands a specialist in the field to diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair all series of motor truck and trailer equipment. The successful candidate will perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner.
Key responsibilities:
- Preventive Maintenance Services: Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services to ensure vehicles are in good working condition.
- Warranty Claims: Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order.
- Work Area Maintenance: Maintain work area appearance and safety.
- Road Testing: Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure they are working properly.
- Tool Operation: Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
- Brake System Inspection: Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
- Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
- Component Repair: Adjust and replace brake, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
- Equipment Inspection: Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
- Safety Inspection: Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
- Dimensional Inspection: Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
- Component Repair: Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions, and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
Requirements:
- 5+ years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required
- Must possess respective Provincial License such as Red Seal/310T
- Must maintain membership/registration with respective Government Agencies
- Current driver's license class D or class 3 with air brake certification required or ability to obtain it within 6 months of being hired
- Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools) required
- Basic computer skills required
- Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required
- Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses preferred
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Willingness to travel as necessary within the district (customers yards, close geographical area and training sites)
