Police Vehicle Equipment Technician

Salary
We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
Job Description
As a Police Vehicle Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of emergency equipment in Calgary Police Service vehicles. Your primary duties will include:
- Installing and testing emergency equipment such as master communication controllers, emergency lights, sirens, in-car digital video, and prisoner barriers.
- Installing decal packages on police vehicles.
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing electrical, non-electrical, and electronic repairs on equipment installed on marked and unmarked police vehicles, including reviewing or drafting wiring diagrams.
- Collaborating with other Fleet Services employees on how to install and troubleshoot equipment.
Working Conditions
You will work within an automotive facility with potential exposure to vehicle exhaust, fluids, and other chemicals. You will use hand and power tools, move police vehicles outside in various weather conditions, and within an indoor facility. You may also need to move heavy equipment within the shop, including lifting and installing various components.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent GED and a minimum of 1 year of automotive-related experience.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing domestic and/or import light-duty vehicles is required.
- Above-average working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, including creating complex wiring looms; integration into factory wiring and controllers; and installing accessories.
- Previous experience working directly with the installation of specialty equipment, including emergency lighting, communication radios, and other police equipment, is required.
- A valid Full Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and a Driving Abstract with no more than 6 demerit points (current within 3 months) and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Excellent communication skills, efficiency and thoroughness, focus on results, relationship building, service orientation, stress tolerance, team building, and teamwork are essential for success in this role.
