SMS Equipment Inc. is a growing company in the heavy equipment industry, with a strong focus on providing exceptional service to our customers. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of construction-related equipment.

Salary: The hourly rate for this position is $49.70 per hour, plus applicable premiums.

About the Role:

This position requires a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification and experience in field repair/maintenance of heavy equipment. You will be responsible for performing assemblies, preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, diagnosing faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment, and making recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggesting methods of improvement.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Performing assemblies, preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
  • Make recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.
  • Think logically and keep up with changes in technology.
  • Interpret work order and technical manuals.
  • Complete job specific reports and paperwork as needed.
  • Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety.
  • Motivated and able to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision.
  • Work remotely in adverse weather conditions. Job tasks may be physically demanding lifting up to 50 lbs. Confined Space work is required.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification. Other requirements include:

  • A strong commitment to safety.
  • Experience in field repair/maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to travel and meet customer site requirements.
  • Experience with Komatsu equipment is considered an asset.
  • Interprovincial Red Seal is considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 5/G drivers license.
