General Counsel

In this critical role, you will provide strategic legal counsel to the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team at Primary Care Alberta. As a trusted advisor, you will exercise sound judgment and anticipate future challenges to ensure the long-term success of the organization.

With your extensive in-house legal experience, you will guide both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational governance. Your ability to manage risk, negotiate complex solutions, and make informed decisions will be invaluable to the organization.

You will oversee and coordinate input from other legal advisors, including those in Alberta Health and Justice and Solicitor General, as well as engage external legal counsel when necessary for specialized expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to the CEO and executive leadership team
  • Exercise sound judgment and anticipate future challenges
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational governance
  • Manage risk, negotiate complex solutions, and make informed decisions
  • Oversee and coordinate input from other legal advisors
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you must possess a J.D. or LL.B and be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta. At least fifteen (15+) years of legal experience, preferably in an in-house healthcare legal department or law firm serving the healthcare sector, is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A graduate degree (MBA) is preferred. Experience in health law, labour relations and employment matters, corporate/commercial matters, contractual language, privacy and freedom of information policy, legal trends, risk, or general regulatory compliance is also desirable.

The estimated salary range for this position is between $67,730 and $121,870 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
