Job Summary
The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled Planning Specialist to join our team in the Lands and Planning Branch. As a Planning Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing provincial Crown land planning, operational land use policies, and delivering programs and initiatives for lands administered under the Crown Lands Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement provincial Crown land planning policies and programs
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including government, non-government, industry, and Indigenous communities, to ensure effective stewardship of Crown land
- Conduct research, analysis, and interpretation of legislation, regulations, and planning policies to formulate management recommendations and facilitate the development of land use plans
- Integrate scientific, technical, stakeholder, and Indigenous knowledge in land use decisions
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders
- Communicate information in a clear and concise manner to decision makers and stakeholders
- Write detailed analytical reports and other documents
- Manage multiple priorities and competing timeframes to meet tight deadlines
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in planning, land management, or public administration
- Experience related to land use planning
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to integrate scientific, technical, stakeholder, and Indigenous knowledge in land use decisions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with various stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- General knowledge of the principles and application of Geographic Information Systems to land use planning
Working Conditions
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be willing and able to travel to rural, northern, remote communities throughout the province
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence
- Must be physically capable of performing duties and functions of the position
- Must be willing to work overtime as required
