About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team at BC Transit. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and performing maintenance on our fleet of vehicles.

This is a regular full-time position with a compressed work schedule of 4 ten-hour shifts and 3 consecutive days off. Shift schedules are Monday-Thursday, Tuesday-Friday, and Friday-Monday days and nights.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and test vehicles to identify and diagnose mechanical issues
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles, including brake systems, suspension, engines, hydraulics, electrical, air conditioning, fuel systems, transmissions, and driveline components
  • Identify and order parts as needed, and rebuild components and change off buses as required
  • Work under the direction of Maintenance Supervisors or designated Tradespersons
Requirements
  • Grade 12 graduate
  • Heavy Mechanical Trades - Truck and Transport Mechanic (order of preference as below);
  • Truck and Transport Red Seal Trade Qualification (On-Road) or;
  • Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Red Seal Endorsement (Off-Road) or;
  • Automotive Trade qualification with extensive experience repairing Transport or Heavy Duty equipment may also be considered
  • Must have a CVIP inspector certification
  • Valid Drivers License – minimum Class 5 (preference for Class 2 or 3 with Air Brakes)
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid Class 2 Drivers License with air brakes after on-the-job training
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive ICBC medical examination relating to the Motor Vehicle Act requirement for a Class 2 Drivers License
  • Completion of a clear Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search
