We are seeking a skilled Heavy-Duty Mechanic to join our team at BC Transit. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and performing maintenance on our fleet of vehicles.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy mechanical trades, with a focus on commercial vehicle repair and maintenance. You will work closely with our maintenance supervisors and tradespeople to ensure that our fleet is in top condition, and that our customers receive the best possible service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical issues with commercial vehicles
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles, including brakes, suspension, engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and more
  • Work with maintenance supervisors and tradespeople to prioritize tasks and ensure efficient use of resources
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by following safety protocols and reporting any hazards or incidents
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and technologies

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 graduate or equivalent
  • Heavy mechanical trades certification, with a focus on commercial vehicle repair and maintenance
  • Valid CVIP inspector certification
  • Valid driver's license, with a preference for Class 2 or 3 with air brakes
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid Class 2 driver's license with air brakes after on-the-job training
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive ICBC medical examination relating to the Motor Vehicle Act requirement for a Class 2 driver's license
  • Completion of a clear criminal record check and/or vulnerable sector search
