Compliance Specialist for Commercial Banking

We are seeking a highly skilled Compliance Specialist to join our team at SMBC Group. As a key member of our commercial banking team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our clients' transactions comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our Front Office Teams in executing Know Your Customer (KYC), Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) requirements for all new and existing customers and non-customers. This includes conducting KYC periodic reviews, analyzing and advising on KYC requirements, and performing adverse media, politically exposed person (PEP) and sanctions screening.
You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate and complete customer information in our KYC/Customer Information File (CIF) System, as well as ensuring that KYC/AML information is kept up to date based on documents/instructions received from clients and/or as independently sourced by the Branch during KYC periodic reviews.
In addition, you will provide training and guidance to team members and/or branch staff in relation to KYC/AML activities, procedures, requirements and/or systems, and report any training needs to the Team Leader for assessment and/or action.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree required, ideally in business, economics, or similar major; professional designation an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in a KYC, compliance and/or AML role, preferably from a federally regulated financial institution (bank) or regulator.
- Working knowledge and experience in the operation of a Schedule III foreign bank branch.
- Working knowledge of the Canadian AML legislation and regulations as well as FINTRAC guidance with relevance to KYC/AML.
As a Compliance Specialist at SMBC Group, you can expect a competitive salary of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on your level of experience and qualifications.
