Forensic Psychologist Role
BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services is seeking a skilled Forensic Psychologist to join our team in Coquitlam, BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, including risk assessments, to inform treatment and management plans.
- Prepare and present written reports to the Courts or BC Review Board, detailing findings and recommendations.
- Participate in treatment planning conferences, providing input from a forensic psychology perspective.
- Provide expert testimony in Courts or BC Review Board hearings, drawing on knowledge of forensic psychology and risk assessment.
- May participate in research initiatives, contributing to the development of design and outcome studies, data collection and analysis, and publication of research papers.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in Clinical Forensic Psychology or Clinical Psychology, with experience in a forensic and/or tertiary-level mental health context.
- One year of direct clinical experience in a forensic or tertiary-level mental health setting, including risk assessment and treatment of adults.
- Current registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia or secured within 18 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychology, including risk assessment and risk management, developmental theories, family and social dynamics, treatment and behavior management modalities, and psychological testing and interpretation.
- Knowledge of the justice system, complex legal issues, and other forensic matters.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Specialized expertise in treatment approaches for violent offenders, sexual offenders, or other specialized forensic psychology issues.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and other related reports.
