About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Assistant to join our team at the Nova Scotia Community College. As a key member of the School of Trades and Transportation, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our shops and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance and upkeep of shop equipment, ensuring that all necessary preventative maintenance procedures are carried out.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment in all areas where students and staff are working.
  • Assist with the setup and display of special events and exhibitions.
  • Support faculty members with lab and pre-lab organization, ensuring that all necessary materials and equipment are available.
  • Supervise the Pipe and Industrial Mechanic shops during service periods, ensuring that all activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with training opportunities for students, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Maintain inventory control and ensure that all necessary materials are ordered in a timely manner to meet curriculum requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with shop safety and quality control requirements, following all applicable safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist faculty members with the preparation, dismantling, and cleanup of workshop demonstrations.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to all staff and users of the shop and classroom spaces.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum of a college diploma or certificate in a related discipline, such as Industrial Mechanic, Plumber, Pipefitter, or Welder.
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent and related occupational experience.
  • Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • A Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • A basic knowledge of trades operations and safe working conditions.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite and email.
  • A commitment to using technology to advance work and a willingness to learn new skills.
